about alena...
I am a freelance illustrator and artist based in Vancouver, Canada.
As a queer, bipolar, and Indigenous Canadian artist, I embrace the complexities of self-discovery and identity in my work. I explore the human and collective experience, how the world around us is shaped, changed, and redefined over time, just as we are.
Before illustration, I worked as an art director in design and currently as a scenic artist in film, building immersive worlds both on screen and on the page. I approach every image with narrative, mood, and emotional resonance in mind because of that background.
I hold a BFA from Emily Carr University, Visual Arts with a drawing major and a minor in Art & Text, which studied the relationship between text and image in illustration, printed texts, communication design, and typography.
